Subsidized Housing Web site Online Now

Offered in partnership with Housing for Independent People (HIP), HousingSCC is the comprehensive, online repository of information on low-income, subsidized housing in Santa Clara County -- available at www.HousingSCC.org. Visitors to the web site can search for housing by a combination of criterion including wait list status, size of unit, monthly rent amount, location, wheelchair accessibility and services offered. Information provided for each property includes location, contact information, how to apply and eligibility requirements. To insure accuracy, real time updates to property information are performed directly by each property's manager or developer.

Prior to HousingSCC's launch in 2002, those looking for low income, subsidized housing were relegated to sifting through numerous printed directories of low income housing information that was many times out of date. The availability of this low income housing was poorly publicized, and the exhaustive, often fruitless process of finding information on low income properties was demoralizing to those who were seeking the most basic of necessities -- a place to call home. Additionally, the duplicity of records on multiple publications meant limited local resources were sometimes being spent unnecessarily. By utilizing technological advancements and the proliferation of internet accessibility, Community Technology Alliance and Housing for Independent People have streamlined the process for finding low income housing in one of the country's most expensive housing markets. The result is an easy to use, up to date, all-inclusive and cost effective listing of low income, subsidized housing that ensures more of those in need in our local community are having their basic needs met and receiving an opportunity to succeed.
